Dr. makayla Cornwell

Makayla Cornwell-Young, OD is a native to the Hampton Roads area since moving to the United States in 2003 after living abroad as a military brat. She graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 2015 then received her bachelor’s degree in health sciences from James Madison University in 2018. After a few years in Memphis TN, she was awarded her Doctorate of Optometry from the Southern College of Optometry in 2023. 

After years of study and practice, Dr. Cornwell expresses her excitement for being able to serve her new home community of Williamsburg. With her history of patient-centered care and extensive medical management, she intends to bring top notch primary eye care to the whole family for many years to come. 

In her spare time, Dr. Cornwell enjoys spending time with her husband, Alec, in their Williamsburg home full of fur babies. She is an avid traveler and thoroughly enjoys spending her downtime with her toes in the sand and book in hand— whether that be on the Bay or elsewhere!
